1 CORINTHIANS 9
What is the main emphasis?
Verses 1-14 - the Believer is worthy of their works/take care of each other
Verses 15-27 - the Believer must live their life as a race (furlong) towards achieving their crown of righteousness... humbleness & keeping their body under subjection.
1 Corinthians 9:1-14
1 Corinthians 9:1 Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?
1 Corinthians 9:2 If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 9:3 Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,
1 Corinthians 9:4 Have we not power to eat and to drink?
1 Corinthians 9:5 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
1 Corinthians 9:6 Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?
1 Corinthians 9:7 Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
1 Corinthians 9:8 Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?
1 Corinthians 9:9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
1 Corinthians 9:10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.
1 Corinthians 9:11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
1 Corinthians 9:12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
1 Corinthians 9:13 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
1 Corinthians 9:14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

We see that 1 Corinthians 9:1-14 goes into great detail on how a "free" individual is worthy of their work. Who is a "free" individual? All persons that the Lord has mercifully chosen to be saved. All saved individuals are prophets of the Lord, proclaiming the scriptures. All are worthy of their works. These verses are declaring two specific ways the free person is to be rewarded for preaching the scriptures. The first is that they shall partake of salvation. The second is that they shall partake of the carnal gifts of each other. The Lord is commanding His people to support, feed and take care of their fellow Believers. This commandment is even more apparent in these Latter Days after Judgment Day. We are not to seek help or comfort from the corporate Church. The Lord is our Help & Comforter. As fellow Believers we are here to help implement the Lord's will.
Matthew 10:9 -10 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.
Are we still proclaiming the scriptures in these last days? Yes, but the Elect will only hear. Scripture is the life blood of the True Believer. The Lord communicates through His Word. It is only through scripture that we can know where we currently stand in these last days. But are the above verses showing us that salvation is still possible during our current time? We must realize that this was referring to the Church Age. Notice in verse 10:
Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.
During the Church Age the Elect were represented as wheat - grain. There was plowing and threshing. The word here for threshing is the Greek word "aloao" (Strong's #G248) which means to tread out grain. During this Final Great Tribulation the Elect are represented as the Grapes/Wine & Olives/Oil. The great winepress is used to tread grapes into wine and olives into oil.
1 Corinthians 9:15-27
1 Corinthians 9:15 But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.
1 Corinthians 9:16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!
1 Corinthians 9:17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
1 Corinthians 9:18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
1 Corinthians 9:19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
1 Corinthians 9:20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
1 Corinthians 9:21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
1 Corinthians 9:22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
1 Corinthians 9:23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
1 Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race [G4712 - stadio (furlong)] run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
1 Corinthians 9:25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
1 Corinthians 9:26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Emphasis: Keeping the body & mind under subjection
Verses 15-27 portray a constant emphasis on keeping the sinful body & mind under subjection, such as pride & boasting (verse 16) lest he be rejected as a preacher (by the Lord & man) for not doing the same works that he preaches (verse 27). And maintaining humbleness as a servant of God unto man (verse 19). For we are no better than another but by the blood of the Lord.
Our life is like unto a race [G4712 - stadio (furlong)]
The True Believer has already been saved. There is nothing, no works that a True Believer can do to receive their golden crown of righteousness (Romans 4:4-6). It is already complete. What the True Believer races [stadio (furlong)] towards is living a righteous life for the Lord as best as they can... mirroring Jesus as close as possible. Declaring the scriptures and helping & supporting fellow Believers (verses 11,16, 27).
What is at the end of the race [G4712 - stadio (furlong)]? When do we receive our crown in these Latter Days?
The Lord shows us when we receive our crown. Below are a few verses declaring when this race [stadio (furlong)] ends and what happens. This whole chapter fits into the 1600 furlongs of the book of Revelation. It appears this is the reason the Lord has utilized the word furlong differently only in this single verse within the Bible.
2Tim 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Jas 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
1Pet 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
Rev 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
For an individual Believer the race [stadio (furlong)] ends at death or at His coming, whichever comes first. For the Great Multitude as a whole these 1600 Furlongs (1600 weeks) began on Sept. 7th, 1994 and will most probably end on May 7, 2025 which should be the Rapture. We can now see a clearer picture of these Latter Days.
So, we see that the greek word "stadio" has one meaning yet one is more specific. The first is a measurement of distance (furlong). The second is a timed measurement of distance (race). Both of these meanings fit perfectly within Revelation 14's 1600 furlongs. The 1600 furlongs represent the duration of time to which the Great Multitude run their race until they are raptured at the End in 2025.
September 7, 1994 (50 year Jubilee) until May 7, 2025 (Rapture) = exactly 1600 full weeks (furlongs)
